2-Hour Camping: Making S'mores at the Park

We took advantage of the nice weather and headed a few miles down to the park. They have 20'x45' brick shelters with two fireplaces. We brought along a pack of $0.30 hotdogs, cans of soda, and a Hershey's S'mores kit. I bought a small bag of charcoal last fall. My husband used this with a big branch someone left in the fireplace to get the fire going.

But the fire couldn't get hot enough. So, our kids gathered pinecones and twigs around the shelter. These are the best firestarters. As you can see from the picture, the pinecone burned red hot quickly and got the log burning too. It only took 30 seconds to cook a hotdog!

We had fun roasting marshmallows and making s'mores.

There were plenty of dandelion puffs to blow and plenty of clover flowers to string together into garlands and bracelets.
The kids even spotted a frog hopping along the ground.

We only spent about a couple of hours out and got to experience the fun aspects of camping. I think we will go out and do this again soon!

  1. Now a days people love camping. They love to spend free time in outdoor rather then in home.
