I have done this 4 times this year with no problems at my store. For Mother's Day, I made my mom a photo collage and sent it to her neighborhood Walgreens. If you are a shopper, you're probably planning your Black Friday strategies starting today. I know I am looking forward to CVS deals. Since they are open Thanksgiving, I'm stopping there after dinner. It's one place to not worry about any lines or Black Friday. Hip2Save has posted deals for CVS and Walgreens already. Both are open Thanksgiving.

Drugstore Deals Heads Up! Oct 3-9

TIPS for newbies:

My shopping days are Weds or Thurs for the new grocery sales. And Sunday for CVS and Target. Because I only get the sale items, these shopping trips are extremely short and laser focused. No wandering. I do my best to avoid Walgreens because I've had too many problems with them in the past (and it's not right down the street). But sometimes, like this week, there are too many good deals to pass up. CVS has the same sales most of the time, so I stick with them. It's important to find one store you can shop regularly.

Forming a relationship with the store manager and cashiers is like forming a shopping support group. They become part of the money-saving team: they will remind you of sales, tell you about clearance items, and don't hassle you about using lots of coupons.

It's so easy to get organized now too. I use my favorite blogs to create a custom shopping list. It's way better than looking at the Sunday paper and figuring which coupons go with the sales. These blogs tell me everything I need to know about the deals, even deal scenarios. I've listed the highlights for you below.

Walgreens Deals Feb 7-13

Register Rewards (RRs) at Walgreens are manufacturer’s coupons (MQs), so treat them accordingly. Each item can only have one MQ: you cannot have more coupons than you do items. So if you have 10 items, and 10 other MQ’s, you cannot use RR’s on top of these 10 coupons. You must get filler items (like pencils or seed packets). And remember to spend those RRs before they expire. I think I’ll start writing the dates into my calendar!

Register Rewards cannot be rolled over like ECBs or Target Gift Cards. So you cannot do the Gillette deal over and over because the RR will not print the second time around. The way to get around this is to use the RR to buy a product from a different company. Below is an example:

My brain is all loopy right now so I couldn't make any sense of the CVS and Walgreens ads. But it's better to wait a couple of days anyway and check what extra deals and match-ups other bloggers find. Unless, of course, they have FREE after ECBs or RRs then I always do those ASAP (Sunday or Monday at the latest). I don't text, but with all these abbreviations, I sure feel 10 yrs younger!

Some reaader have reported at Hip2Save that their Walgreens are offering BOGO for Aveeno, Clean & Clear and Lubriderm. So, I was going by Cordova Mall and called the Walgreens there. They said theirs was only BOG1/2. We have a bunch of errands to do and somehow never got around to Walgreens. But on the way home, we passed by the Walgreens off Saufley Field and Mobile Hwy and theirs is BOGO! How 2 stores not 10 miles from each other can have completely different promotion is just insane to me. But I'm sure glad for it!

I make my CVS stop on Sunday because my favorite CVS is right down the street from church. I also like to buy the Sunday paper there since I can use my ECBs (CVS coupons) to pay for them. I really only go to CVS on Sundays. But during the early part of the week, other bloggers will find more deals or new printables. They'll have transaction scenarios which act as your shopping list. So I wait until Tuesday or Wedsnesday to go to Walgreens.

If all the freebies are gone when you get the store, just ask for a raincheck. Then call in before you go next time to see if they have that item. At CVS, they will issue the ECBs that go with your raincheck too. But at Walgreens I was told that Register Reward deals will not be given rainchecks. Just other sales including those with in-ad coupons.

Walgreens Super Shopping 12.12.09

Instead of snow we have rain showers all day. It's kinda gloomy and it's messing with my depth perception- my shopping glasses that is. I came in to Walgreens today to grab some grocery staple items and a few of the deals. But after the 2nd transaction, I ran out of money. (Didn't do my list with the prices on it and messed up the Ragu deal, forgot the coupon.) Plus I was hungry. So I was able to find most of the deals, even though it's already Saturday. But I decided to put the rest down and not buy the extras since I'm supposed to save money, not spend all of it. Although, now I'm going back and forth in my head about going back out there and getting the rest.

I spent $20.65+tax, got $5RR & $2RR. I then used both for the Olay products and spent $9+tax. I used the $5 RR from the 1st transaction, so another one did not print out. If I could start over with this shopping trip, I would have bought the other products that would have been free after RRs first then bought the Olay products. It only makes sense to get the one that won't give RRs back at the end. That's a rule of thumb that I forgot. And it cost me $5RRs. But since I turned in this Olay Rebate for $20, the Olay products should be FREE and I get half my money back from the 1st trans.

Even though, in my eyes, this shopping was not super, I guess I won't be going back or making price adjustments for forgotten coupons. It's cold and wet outside and I'd rather take a nap!

P.S. If you are doing this Olay Rebate, the safest bet is to get it at Wal-Mart or elsewhere it might cost less than $9.99 and not bother with the coupons. I used 2 Buy Bodywash, Get Lotion FREE coupons which show up distinctly in my receipt (-$9.99 right under $9.99 price). So I'm not even sure if they will get me the rebate, since I obviously got these item for free already with the coupons. Ay! That's what I get for not reading this post carefully. Thanks anyway, H2S!

Walgreens 4 Day Sale Starts Today!

Walgreen 4day sale starts today. The deals here plus other deals this week are good through Saturday. You'll get $5 RRs for spending $25 before coupons. They have great sales, even on groceries, this week and lots of RR deals that will give you FREE items.

Side Note: For those who use EBT cards for food, this is a great tip for you- buy $25 worth of food items and get $5 RR to use on non-food necessities like toilet paper. Lookout for other stores that have grocery deals that give you store credit to use on other items (like Target's $5 gift card deals and CVS extra care bucks). Say, you're in need of detergent. Just a word of caution:
When I was looking at the match-ups for this week, I was dissapointed that I didn't have the coupons needed for the deal. Nor have I found the Walgreens Coloring Book. So I can still do the first transaction a few times if I buy coupons online. But what would I do with all the Ecotrin? Donate them. Is it worth the hassle when I already made some money from Black Friday deals two days ago...

Sometimes I have to stop and check myself like this. I have to question my needs vs. wants. There will always be deals. So it's ok if I skip a great deal once in a while. Make sure you do the same. The drugstore coupon games can be fun but it's easy to get sucked into doing too much. And that's not the point of saving money.

$3 Watches at Walgreens

While doing Black Friday deals at Walgreens, the cashier at the cosmetics counter said watches were now 75% off. Walgreens will discontinue carrying them so they are on sale. Some were $3 and others $4.75 like the ones in the picture. These would make nice Christmas gifts. The best part is that you can use up those extra Register Rewards if you need to get rid of a few.

P.S. I think these would make a nice gift for young adults who could wear them for job interviews to round out their outfit. We were visiting with family friends whose daughter was home for college. And her list of Black Friday items to get were mainly professional clothes for job hunting. A nice watch is a great "grown-up" accessory.

CVS and Walgreens Black Friday Deals

UPDATE: I did get a chance to stop by CVS on Thursday and Walgreens on Friday, both at night. Of course the stores were not crowded. To my relief, they were well-stocked. At Walgreens, they even put all the Black Friday deals all in the same endcap. Total: all FREE + $4 overage after ECBs. Plus I'll get $9 for Just for Men Rebate!

Total: all FREE after RRs! I had $6 overage from coupons which went to pizzas and crayons (were $1.99 each).

My two favorite stores, CVS and Walgreens are also having their Black Friday deals starting Thursday. Today is the best time to pop over there and get a few items for free after ECBs and RRs because everyone will be too sleepy from all the turkey they ate. Last year, I was able to buy all the presents I had for myself (make-up and a hair dryer) for FREE at these two stores. Check out the deals from this list of stores. Also, Dollar General is having a Thursday only and a three-day sale. Kristin did a great job posting all these deals, so now I don't have to!

The Walgreens $5 off $25 I used at the end after all the coupons and before tax. My total came out to $26 and the coupon still didn't work. So I grabbed a $1 lipliner and it worked fine. It helps to check out at the cosmetics counter because my cashier was patient with me and all my coupons (I had at least one for every item bought!) and she waited for me to get my filler items. So, get to know your cosmetics counter cashiers because they are part of your money-saving team!

Walgreens Deals and Shopping

My total was $43.35 but $11.46 was on EBT. Got $25 RR back. Will submit for $15 Bayer and $5 SC Johnson rebate. After all these money-backs, this trip will be a little moneymaker for me! (Also I did 2 transactions and used a $5 off $25 for each. That is why I bought food items to lower the out of pocket expense since food is covered by my EBT card. And I tried to get mostly items that will be give RRs since the $5 off $25 must be used AFTER coupons.)

Even though I've already made my 3 submissions, I will make some for family members who I know will not do the rebate. What a nice surprise for them to get a $5 check in the mail!

Lots of make-up are on clearance. This Maybeline lipstick was $2.19. Sally Hansen foot products were $3 or more.

Ester-C is BOGO at $10.99 for 2. I ued two $5 off Qs so only $0.50 each. The key now is to start taking them. Ugh, horsepills!

Almay foundation is $9.99 with $10 RR. FREE natural foundation! Almay One Coat Mascara is $6.99. There is $4 off in the November book (get your copy!) so only $3.

These are $1.99 on sale, plus $1 off in the November book. The 100% Cranberry had $1 off peelies! So I bought 4 FREE bottles. I saw peelies at Target too but those said $1 off Cranberry Craisins or fresh cranberries. I don't know if the Walgreens ones were the same because I didn't read the coupon and it didn't beep at the register. My excitment overtook me!

These were on sale $0.50 with the in-ad Q. Plus I used two $0.65 off Qs from here. So these were FREE too. I really wanted to get the baking powder but I was told you can get a raincheck. Didn't know you could do that at Walgreens.

This is all I bought for the 2nd transaction. It came up to $24 and I bought a giant $1 cookie for a filler item. This way I could use the $5 off $25 coupon. So I paid $21 with tax. Then I got $15 RRs ($10 for Almay & $5 for Breeze 2) and will submit for $15 Breeze 2 rebate.Did you know that local food pantries often accept these for donations? After RRs and rebates, these FREE items will also make us $9! That's what I'm talking about!


Walgreens used to not be so fun for me. All the rude cashiers seemed to love working there. But after a few months of boycotting them in the spring, then slowly getting back to shopping there once in a while, things changed. I had one really great cashier who encouraged me and gave some insight. And I've been having fun again at Walgreens! So if you have had nasty cashiers there before and stayed away from them too, please consider trying again. I suggest only checking out at the photo or cosmetics counter. They seem to be nicer there.

Super Shopping Around Town

For family fun, we stopped at Chuck-e-Cheese to redeem my son's FREE 20 Birthday tokens and 20 FREE Halloween tokens. I think you have to sign-up, but the Halloween coupon is good through Nov. 1. We had the BEST time there. They open at 9am and we went in at 9:06am. No one was there and our kids got to just run around and not have to wait their turn. Then hubs totally rocked with the basketball game, making an all-time store record of 203! Baby girl even got lots of tickets from Battleship. Early mornings on weekdays is the best time to go!
Payless has 50% off ANY shoes today for the Oprah Show viewers. We stopped by the mall to get $2 Costumes at Old Navy but left disappointed. That frown turned quickly to a smile for right across from Old Navy at Cordova is Payless! We bought shoes for the entire family (two for Mommy- how nice!) for $53 for 5 pairs. The last time I bought new shoes was before 2000! It was a real treat buying these for about $10 a pair!

Next to Old Navy was Victoria's Secret. I had a long-awaited bra fitting. I've been wearing the wrong size all these years. Blame it on having kids! Since I signed-up for Pink Nation, I was able to print a coupon for $10 off any bra. Plus I used a Q for FREE lip gloss w/ bra fitting. It only cost $15 for my bra and lipgloss. A savings of $17!

I also bought 2 contact paper rolls for $0.87 each, $0.75 deck of cards for Low Vision challenged (that's what it says on there) and a box of gloves for $5. We use these disposables for cleaning the toilet, behind the faucet, gardening and such. The Stacy's Pitas were $1 each after Q & RR. I also bought two 1Minute Quaker Oats for $1.70. But it didn't print the $5 RR. So I might return it since I can get it cheaper at Wal-Mart. I need to just leave a box in the car for returns when I can't take care of the problem right then.

The monthly RRs are still working: Vaseline and Dentek printed RRs to make them FREE! I'll roll these RRs at Publix to buy All Small & Mighty ($2.99 sale). With the RRs I can get at least 5 bottles free.

Some No-Gos:
Old Navy opened with a line of at least 40 people waiting to get in. The 1st 50 got a nice Reusable bag and 50% off. The catch was that you had to show your Old Navy card or sign-up for one. So they wouldn't let us have a bag. Bummer. There's no way I would get another card for a long, long, time.

Only a few costumes were left and all were winter-wear, like fuzzy fleece butterfly. There were Halloween T-shirts, socks, etc for $2.

Bath and Body Works also has a FREE Pocketbac with purchase. But it was so small and the gift bag too (purchase can be as little as a $1 item) so I just gave my coupons away to a lady.

Publix has this $4 off 4 GM or Nature Valley items In-Ad Q. But it appears to be only for the GM Cereal and granola on sale. Unlike our blogger friends in GA, we are not getting that deal- I even called corporate's marketing dept! Now they are passing me off to the District Manager. We'll see, the deal end Tuesday so I still have time.

I wonder if these work with the Air Wick Freshmatic. Because refills without the thing to RE-fill is pretty silly. But call me coupon crazy, I think I'll still get it anyway!
